The 16^th “Summertime On-Stage” Youth Drama Camp runs June 20-July 17, 2016 at Billie Limacher Bicentennial Park Theatre. The campers meet on stage, Monday through Thursday, while working on a musical production for public presentation July 16 & 17. Open to ages 5-18, the indoor theatre camp welcomes all levels of interest and ability. Instructors believe in inclusion, as the creative arts play an important role in every child’s development.

WHAT’S THE CAMP ABOUT?
According to age group, students learn will learn at their level: vocal techniques, movement, creative dramatics, theatre terminology, script work, choreography, voice projection, costuming, props, makeup and more. As well as acting skills, students will learn to channel their creativity, develop their self-confidence and build cooperation skills to achieve a common goal—a musical production! In addition, the high school students in the four-hour class will have hands-on experience with set design, sound booth operations and lighting.

WHAT TO WEAR?
Students should wear comfortable clothes that allow for plenty of movement. PLEASE NO FLIP FLOPS.

PARENTS’ ROLE?
Parents are welcomed to stay during camp, but it is not necessary. Parents play an important part behind the scenes in many areas: costuming, makeup, ushering, concessions,  etc. . For example, one year parents had a blast serving up lime “swamp water” for SHREK and “purple cow sodas” for HAPPY DAYS. It’ll be fun to see what we come up with for this year’s show!

TECH WEEK & SHOWTIME!
Tech week is the camp’s last week, when campers meet Monday through Friday to get ready for the Saturday and Sunday shows. For 2016, tech week is July 11-17. This is when we really need you parents!

No reservations needed. Tickets are just $3 and will be sold at the door.

CAMP CELEBRATES 15 YEARS  IN 2015 WITH DIRECTOR LORI:
For the past 15 years, Lori Carmine has directed our drama camp and seen it grow. We now average over 60 children each summer!

Lori’s belief in nurturing children’s creativity across all levels of ability, means an inclusive opportunity is available on the Bicentennial stage. Over her 15 years, Lori has seen the camp’s positive impact children’s sense of self and sense of community. She reminds them all “no role is too small. I played a tree in my school play. I had no lines. But, they needed me to make the story complete. Just like we need you to tell our story to the audience, completely.”

In 2015, Lori and the Park were especially grateful the 15th year was marked by the generous support of the COMMUNITY FOUNDATION OF WILL COUNTY. Through them, the camp was able to offer tuition assistance to those in need, some attending for the first time. Also, the camp was able to hire a music therapist who assisted those with special needs. In addition, the camp provided older students technical training on new theatre technology:  LED lighting run by computer software. With the new technology in place, students interested in the technical-side of theatre will receive additional training in the growing and exciting world beyond the stage.
