ABOUT
In 1947, an odd group gathers regularly at a restaurant called STAMP, where they share stories and discuss world affairs. The patrons have one thing in common; they’re black Americans who’ve all been featured on the US postage stamp. Their daily routine is interrupted when a young girl (Jersey) wanders in for a bite to eat after a trip from the library. She’s needs to finish a report on Benjamin Franklin, the first to be featured on a postage stamp; she’s been told: “No blacks have been featured on the stamp, and never will.” Interesting stories and music bring the education of black contribution to American society, as well as their featured achievement on US postage stamps.
This original production is making its debut here in Joliet and is directed by Weston of GSW Network. “Stamp,” in its expanded version, will be presented for School District 86 at Washington Jr. High on Monday, February 27.
