“CLYBOURNE PARK”
Written by Bruce Norris
Directed by Cathie & Jim Stewart
Act One takes place in 1959, as nervous white community leaders anxiously try to stop the sale of a home to a black family (borrowing a plotline from Lorraine Hansberry’s A Raisin in the Sun). Act Two is set in the same house in 2009, as now the predominantly African-American neighborhood battles to hold its ground in the face of gentrification. This excruciatingly funny and squirm-inducing satire explores the fault line between race and property. Winner of the 2011 Pulitzer Prize for Drama and 2012 Tony Award for “Best Play.”
